Do lawyers obey the law?

They must.

You cannot argue in court about the rightness of a legal principle unless you are prepared to acknowledge its rightness. And obey it.

But as there are bad doctors and bad engineers, some bad lawyers, and some bad judges (one hopes a small number) twist the law beyond recognition.

That is ethically wrong. For it shows an intent to disobey the spirit of the law.  Such lawyers and judges are to be avoided–like the plague.

Illegality, impropriety and ethical misbehaviour exist everywhere. Throughout history, it raises its ugly head, again and again. From the spiritual bastions to the plains of Africa does it makes its presence felt.

Like goodness, and mercy, evil ever stalks the land. Many have fallen for its wiles, and many will continue to be seduced by its machinations.

All too often evil wins.  The question is, are you prepared to stand up for what is right?  And pay the price?

Then become a lawyer- a lawyer who respects the law, but loves justice more.

I have on occasion seen lawyers disobey a law, so as to do justice.  I  have observed judges work around a strict law,  so as to be merciful.

At those times I have scratched my head, and gone away shaking my head.

But always with a smile …
