My experience with the Covid-19 AZ vaccination
I had registered for the AstraZeneca vaccine. My appointment was at 2pm at PWTC. I reached at 1.43 pm.
[1] Three parts describe how my vaccination was carried out
The first part was the administrative part.
The second was the registration and vaccination part.
The third was what happened at departure.
[2] The first part
There were easily about 2,000 people there. It was a complete confusion.
We wanted to find out where the senior citizens line started. We were wading into a crowd.
It was impossible to observe the SOP in a situation like that. You cannot blame anybody.
It took us about 5 minutes to look for the senior citizens’ line.
The people there were trying to follow the SOPs. There was no yelling, shouting, or screaming.
The RELA officers were very polite. I asked a lady police officer where is the senior citizens line and she said it is at the CIMB bank.
We went there. There were police lines but I could not cross it.
I asked this policeman where is the senior citizens line. He said, ‘it is in this line.’ So, I asked, ‘how do you get in here?’
There were about 70 people already lining up. The police officer lifted the line and said ‘come and stand here.’
So, Mala and I went and stood there.
When you go there, you have to scan with My Sejahtera. We had to show the policeman that our vaccination was at two o’clock otherwise he would not have let us in. He actually looked at it and said ‘all right, come in.’
We had to scan the QR code. Do not go into the vaccine QR.
[3] The second part
Then we were asked to sit at the designated tables. On the table there were two pieces of placards. The first placard was for registration, ‘I am here’. The second one said, ‘I am going to be vaccinated’.
I thought maybe this one is a normal scanning the second one is one the way you go to the vaccination menu and then you press the QR. Many people made the same mistake. Nobody was there to tell them how to do it.
I got there. They asked me to sit down. We then made our way to the first floor. It was like an aircraft lounge. There were about 200 nice chairs arranged into different compartments – all one and a half meters apart. We were asked to sit.
One gentleman came, and said ‘could you please take out your phone.’ Then he gave us instruction on what we had to do in the My Sejahtera app.
He asked us to scan the QR code in front of our chair. We did that. Now the next batch was ready. So, he got all of us to line up in three lines to station one, station two and station three, respectively.
We were asked to go up to the fourth floor. Eventually we ended up before a lady, sitting down with a set of forms. There are two forms you have to fill up. We filled up the forms.
We were asked to take out our ICs. They will check your My Sejahtera application at every step of the way.
We went to the doctors. They asked very simple questions e.g. ‘do you have these symptoms?’
I was then called to booth E. At every booth, there were two men sitting. I went and sat down. The doctor took out a syringe, and asked, ‘can you see it is 0.5’. I said ‘I trust you.’
I showed my doctor’s letter. They looked at it and asked me some extra questions.
They gave me the jab.
Mala and I were asked to go down to the third floor. There again, we checked in with My Sejahtera.
They asked us to sit down and not to leave until we fill up a form. So, we filled it up.
The doctors came through and took us to another part of the hall. There, the doctor gave us a card. It had the batch number of my vaccine.
He asked us to write the vaccine name, the batch number, our name, IC number.
We were told to keep this card for we must bring it back. They will give a copy of the form to you.
The doctor announced, ‘if you have any problems, please raise your hands immediately.’ He went away. So, we waited until it was 2.47 and Mala waited until 2.52. I waited until she came.
[4] The last part
We went out. There were cut out boxes that read ‘I have been vaccinated’. Everybody was taking photographs.
Two things upset me.
First, there was a private medical company’s name that was put up there which said download this app and we will cover you for everything.
This was a private advertisement and there were about 20 or 30 of these notices.
The second thing was when I came out where ‘it says I have been vaccinated’ and down there it was written a politician’s name. There was not a word about the ministry of health or the doctors from there.
The sign stated please give a thumbs up to this politician. His name was given in full name in the Instagram. That upset me.
These guys are supposed to be helping us and they are looking for a name. That is not right.
I am so proud of our Malaysian medical system. I am so glad that we have these doctors and nurses.
I want to thank the Ministry of Health, and our doctors for helping us.
I am not very happy with the politics.
